3/26 and 3/27 5th and 4th Period AP WH

We finished notes on Chapter 23 and started Chapter 24 today.  Students were given a map titled "Land Empires in the Age of Imperialism, 1800-1870."  The students need to complete the following and be ready to turn it in for a homework grade next class:

Shade in the Ottoman Empire to show its territorial losses in these periods:
1829 to 1877
1878 to 1913
Then trace the boundaries of the Ottoman Empire in 1914 and Russia in 1802.
PLEASE USE COLORED PENCILS
Make sure your map has a key.

Students also need to finish reading Chapter 24 before next class.  Expect a Reading Quiz that could cover all of Chapter 24.

EXTRA CREDIT

There will be an extra credit assignment posted on the chalk board in my room to the right of the smartboard.  It is "Internet Exploration" assignments from Chapters 21-25.  You will need to pick two of them.  If you complete the tasks given and turn it in by April 2nd for 4th Period and April 3rd for 5th Period, I will turn your lowest quiz grade into a 100.

3/24 and 3/25 5th and 4th Period AP World History

Read the first half of Chapter 24 before next class, pages 687-699.  And don't forget to research your abolitionist or women's rights worker before next class.

***The next test will be Chapters 21-25.  5th period will take it Tuesday April 14th and 4th period will take it Wednesday April 15th.  There will be an after school study session on Monday April 13th.  All students will get their review sheets before Spring Break.

3/23 4th Period AP WH

For homework students need to answer the 4 questions about Bolivar's Jamaica Letter posted on my blog from 3/22/2012.  The students were also all given a date corresponding to an event listed on page 657.  They need to bring a paragraph of information in their date and be ready to do a 60 seconds presentation next class.  Students also need to finish reading Chapter 23.

Just So You Know

Guidance wanted to make sure I shared the following two points with you in regards to the AP Exam:


1.       If they drop AP at this point or do not take the exam, they will owe $15.00 for the unused exam fee.

2.       If they do not take the exam, they will receive HONORS CREDIT (.5 weight) for 1st AND 2nd semester.

We explored more on Simon Bolivar in class today.  The students were given a specific date in class that they need to research over the weekend and be ready to do a 60 seconds presentation on it next class.  Finish reading chapter 23 before next class.

We finished taking notes on chapter 22 in class, then we spent the last half of class writting a DBQ.  The students need to read pages 655-670 in Chapter 23 before next class.

3/12 and 3/13 5th and 4th AP World History

Students recieved a DBQ in class today.  You do not need to write an actual essay but you do need to use the documents to do the following (keeping in mind you are addressing the causes and effects of the French Revolution):

1. Create at least two groups and explains which documents go into which group and why.
2. Explain the POV in as many documents as you can.
3. List at least one additional document per group and explain how it would stregthen the group.
4. Write a thesis statement for this DBQ addressing the cause and effects of the French Revolution.
(This will be collected for a HW grade next class.

Students also need to read pages 629-640 of chapter 22.  We are due for a reading quiz.

3/9 4th Period AP World History

Students took their Chapter 19 and 20 test today.  They need to complete the chapter 21 test before next class.  Also read pages 600-610.

3/4 and 3/5 5th and 4th Period AP World History and Thesis Statements

We looked at several primary sources dealing with Chapter 20.  Students need to be ready for their TEST NEXT CLASS.  Thesis statements are below.  You need to write one COMP and one CCOT.  And if I were you I would review my list of CCOT for China between 1368-1796.


      Compare one or more of the land based empires in Chapter 19 with one or more of the maritime empires you have studied.  What are the advantages and disadvantages of a land empire as opposed to a maritime empire? Three similarities and three differences need to be included in your thesis.

      Compare the administrative structure of either the Russian or Qing Empire to that of either the Ottoman or Mughal Empire. Three similarities and three differences need to be included in your thesis.

CCOT- Europe’s influence on the Ottoman Empire from 1453 to 1800. Be sure to include, social, economic, and political factors.

CCOT- China’s influence on European civilization from 1500 to 1800. Be sure to include social, economic, and political factors.

3/2 and 3/3 5th and 4th Period AP World History

We went over the Chapter 19 chart in class today and took a quiz on the chart.  Next class students need to bring a list of CCOT for Ming/Qing 1368-1796.  Use Chapters 12 and 20 to complete this.  Hopefully next class we will finish Chapter 20 and take the Chapter 19 and 20 test on Friday 3/6 and Monday 3/9.
